Making a carefully planned vision a reality

Project by Betz Pools Ltd.
It took the entire season to complete the backyard of this new home in Ancaster, Ont. Not from production delays, but rather the owner’s unrelenting commitment to perfection. He wanted to ensure every single element brought functionality to his carefully planned backyard luxury leisure living space.
Betz Pools was contacted by the homeowner’s landscape architect. At this stage, the only item in place in the backyard was the roof structure and concrete foundation for an elevated loggia across the back of the home. The initial plan called for the placement of a pool and sports court several steps down at ground level.
The consultant from Betz suggested raising the pool and deck to mitigate the change in grade of the sloping lot. The far side of the 4.8- x 11.5-m (16- x 38-ft) custom-vinyl pool, which is elevated three steps above the sports court, serves as a retaining wall.
The pool features elegant wide-tread custom vinyl-over-steel walk-in steps. These steps, along with the spa seats and spacious 2.1- x 4.5-m (7- x 15-ft) tanning shelf, are lightly padded to provide comfort and prevent slipping. The pool’s blue pebble liner contrasts beautifully with the sand-blasted Algonquin stone coping. The coping’s square-cut face lends a modern look.
The 1.8- x 1.9-m (6- x 6.33-ft) custom vinyl-over-steel spa is centred on the length of the pool. This “sport pool” has a medium depth ranging from a 1.2-m (4-ft) shallow end to a 1.6-m (5.2-ft) deep end. With the pool’s shallow depth, the spa is easily accessible from all four sides.
The eight-person outdoor dining table, which is conveniently located beside the kitchen walkout, is sheltered by the loggia roof structure. The premium clear cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling features Solaria radiant heaters, which help to extend the season for outdoor entertaining.
Also located next to the kitchen walkout, the custom outdoor barbecue station features a full complement of premium Twin Eagles stainless steel appliances and storage accessories. The black granite countertop and custom Algonquin stone cladding blends beautifully with the loggia’s structural materials.
A spacious outdoor lounge area, also sheltered by the loggia, is located beside the home’s family room. The focal point is the custom stone-clad fire feature with elegant linear flame burner. A pair of flanking frosted glass panels helps to enhance privacy and block any chilling breezes.
